1909 Doughboy’s Bolo Legacy

a custom-modified version of the original M-1909 Bolo Knife used by U.S. soldiers (Doughboy’s) during WWI

Inspired by the iconic U.S. Model 1909 Bolo Knife, the Bolo Knife is a modern recreation handcrafted by KHHI. Built for both power and practicality, this bolo carries the spirit of the American soldiers who once wielded it through dense jungles and harsh battlefields. 

Originally this Bolo knife was used by the US soldiers during WW1 invasion in Cuba and the Philipines to defend and fight against the similar machete blades that was used by the enemy soldiers. Hence the name, '1909 Doughboy’s Bolo Legacy' represents  1909 AD the original version was made and issued, 'Doughboy’s' the nickname for the boys who went to war, and BOLO to the name and design it was sourced from, 'Legacy' as for the remembrance for their involvement.

Originally ordered by our customer, we decided to make it a much more functional machete for daily rough use rather than a mere replica. While the measurement remains the same, the blade shape also remains the same as the identity of the knife, few customization are made on the handle with added hammer for strength and durability. Handforged and handcrafted by skilled blacksmiths at KHHI is a testament to bladesmithing and craftsmanship in overall. 

With a robust 14-inch blade crafted from high-carbon steel, a curve shape near the tip on the belly delivers exceptional chopping performance while maintaining balance, strength, and durability. The blade features a 6mm thick spine that tapers perfectly for balanced handling, paired with a broad belly near the tip for maximum cutting force. Its unpolished matte finish gives the knife a rugged, battle-ready look.

The 7-inch handle, made from light-colored rosewood scales, offers a comfortable and secure grip, fastened with sturdy 3 steel rivets. The double guard and pommel hammer, both welded-on for durability, provide enhanced control and balance during heavy use.

The knife comes with a traditional scabbard, where wooden planks are covered by buffalo black leather and sewed beautifully by hand for secure and easy carry.
